Avant Garde Typography Poster

Graphic Design
Project Overview
After researching the history, use, and cultural connotation of a selected typeface, we were tasked to create a poster that visually represents both the physical and cultural aspects of the font.
Design Considerations
Avant Garde was created as a magazine logo, so I tried to include reference to magazine covers, specifically Avant Garde magazine with the overall direction. The magazine pushed bounds with its eroticism and political statements.

The ligatures are the most iconic aspect of the typeface itself, so I place them front and center, letting their elegance speak for themselves.

Finally, I incorporate the use of negative space to link the cultural reference of the magazine cover layout with the physical features of the font, using one of the ligature H's to create the structure of the layout.
